greetings from the desert southwest-i actually own a 1963 fairlane 500 wagon similar to an early 60's ranchero, and it came with a column shift overdrive transmission. ive been able to replace the transmission with a straight 3-speed and have a hurst floor shifter attatched-but what i want to know is did anyone ever come up with a conversion kit for the overdrive model? if so i would greatly appreciate any info on locating the shifter and how it would be installed
thanks
Did you contact Hurst? There were lots of interesting trannys & etc. in the 50s & 60s. I cannot see why Hurst would not have made a shifter for your application. My dad put an aftermarket floor shifter in his Edsel in 65, so you should be able to find something. Names like Hurst, Fenton, Foxcraft & Saginaw come to mind as the main shifter mfgs. in the 60s. This is way before B&M came to be.
Just looked in the service manual & noticed that the 3spd gearbox is not the same as the one used in front of the O/D tailshaft assy. That might explain why the regular 3 spd shifter would not work?
Good luck in your search.

6:53 PM..... Just remembered a guy that had a 63 Falcon Sprint ragtop. The car was a 6cyl with a factory 4spd. Now I'm wondering if it wasn't a 3spd O/D??????
