Got in my 2007 Expedition and turned the key and all I get is a click sounds like a machine gun going off. Got battery...lights and radio works. Any suggestions before I call the shop?
I say it's the battery. Just because your lights work and radio works doesnt mean the battery has enough juice to start the vehicle. Can you put a volt meter on the battery and check it while someone cranks it?
Jumped it and it started right up. Took it to have the battery tested and they told me that the battery was 100%. The guy at Auto Zone asked me if I checked the starter. He told me that ford is known for the connections going bad on the starter? Any truth to this?
If it jumped just fine, then it most likely is not an issue with corrosion at the starter. Possibly corrosion at the battery terminals as it won't charge as well as it should.
Cleaned up the terminals on the battery and put a battery charger on it to make sure it was fully charged last night. Got up this morning and battery had 12.6 volts. Again clicking no start. Put the charger on for about 5 min and it started right up. I thinking of getting the battery tested again. I took a look at the starter cables and they look good and tight. Any further ideas?
Try honking the horn next time. The horn puts a pretty good load on the battery. If it sound weak then it is your battery.
Next would be to make sure you are all the way in Park.
