I have a 95 Ranger , 2.3, manual trans, 2wd. I have a ruptured disc in my back and this causes me to get severe cramps and pain in my right leg when driving if I don't have a cruise control. Just wondered if it is possible and where to get the parts if it is. If not I guess I will drive my 150 most of the time. I am missing the mileage of the Ranger with gas prices like they are.
The installation is not difficult, as bratman noted, just finding where to place the servo, how to route the cable, locating a firewall grommet that can be used for the wires {fished mine past another set of wires using the same grommet}, installing the magnets on the driveshaft, locating and installing the magnetic pickup.
If you ever thought about becoming an engineer, here's your chance to fiddle and poke and make stuff install and look as if it's factory.
Cost was ~$100, but today, a decade later, is closer to $200. I used the AUdiovox. I might have gotten it from JCWhitney when they had a sale. Wards {gone.}, Penneys Automotive {ditto}, were sources before, but I think it will be Sears, or local auto parts chain outlets. I'm not even sure if they are for sale.
An alternative is to get the compete factory setup from a boneyard. If you do, make sure to take pictures of which connector goes where, and it wouldn't hurt to have pictures of your truck to see if the wiring is already there. Only problem I see is the clockspring or brush connectors on the steering column, and the airbag...

Ugh, I feel your pain... I blew out a disc several years ago and was laid up in bed for 3 months while waiting for the neurosurgeon to fit me in his schedule - I had the most raging case of sciatica in my right leg... I've been fine since the surgery, but I have to be mindful of how I move and lift things since I now have a dead disc in my back...
Have any of you looked into adding factory cruise components? I am midway through the process now. I am just now looking for a deal on a set of used steering wheel controls and I should be there! If anyone has any information on this, I would be grateful. Like i sad, I think I am about there.
