Hey Guys, quick question. I recently bought a 99 ranger 4.0 5spd and it’s a dream but it’s lacking one thing, cruise control. I have seen aftermarket add-ons but would much rather have the oem one, is that something I can have installed (or install my self) for a reasonable price. I’m fairly competent with basic mechanics, change my own oil, do my own brake work etc. thanks in advance for any responses.

If you can change your brakes you can do this cruise add-on!
The kit that comes into mind for me is the Audiovox Model CCS-100 EDIT: I forgot to mention the last time I ordered these, retail was around 80bux.
This kit seemed the easiest to install for aftermarket applications.
One thing to really remember when doing this install is to make sure all the new wiring stays Away from electromagentic/high current routes... which would include Spark Plug Wires, Alternator, etc.
If by chance get too close to these wires/sources while the Cruise is in service it could inadverntely disengage it.
This kit also seemed like it was already set-up for Ford's 8000PPM (pulses per minute) count....Its only a matter of flipping a few Dip switches.
When/ If you finally decide... Check back...
I can give you "Possibilities" of where to go in order to get Power and Various different Signals.
To wander a bit.... It doesn't seem to be a very (practical?) cheap option to add on the Real OEM cruise. Unless you could find a gem of a parts Ranger to get the entire unit (steering wheel too) in the Boneyards. But then, you are not entirely certain that the donor vehicle's cruise still worked (correctly).

I agree with Rich. OEM kits run around $250. Even if you could get it at the junkyard cheaper you would still have to replace the steering wheel the clock spring, which is a real pain. I added a oem cruise control on my aspire which was easy to do but it doesn't use buttons on the steering wheel. Eventually i'm going to get the Audiovox for my 06 2.3L Ranger, looks alot simiplier and cheaper.
Thanks guys, i guess the only reason i wanted oem was for the clean look of it but that kit looks alright, i will most likely go with that but gotta waight till next month after i move. any recamendations about were to mount the pad?
I am putting a cruise control on my 02 Ranger also. Been doin a little research. The OEM Cruise will be costly and a pain to install just as you guys mentioned. The Audiovox is the ticket. I found a place to install it for $299.00. out the door.
As far as mounting ideas. I am going to mount the switch flush on a plate and attach the plate (black metal or plastic) in the little square compartment thats about the size of an area big enough for a pack a smokes. Its under all the AC controls right in the center. I think that would look much better than sticking it on the dash somewhere. The ranger is short on dash panel area to mount switches and other stuff. Good Luck and let us know.
A popular spot seems to be...
On a custom plate/bracket
On the right side of the steering wheel-column.
Right on the lower edge of the Black bezel for the speedo instrument cluster. That's right before that dash area starts in & out...
I think in Giles case, it would be great since he doesn't have the interference of the gear-shift lever.
Ondgas, it sounds like you have the "smokers package" on your Ranger. Seems like a good use of available real estate.
