Can anyone give me some insight on why my fuel guage would be stuck on Full. It got stuck there one day when i was pulling some good size stumps and giving it some decent jolts. Would something come loose at the pump/float assembley? Broken wire somewhere? Anyone have this happen or know where a guy can start? Thanks for comments, JT
Friends excursion The float got stuck behind the wires for the sending unit. Had to drop the tank 4 bolts then take the sending unit out. Free the float and put back reverse order. He has not had a prob since. Im Thinking the jolts would cause the fuel to slosh around with enough force and get the float caught behind the wires.
I was thinking I would be dropping the tank no matter what. I hope its that simple of a fix. $200 pump\float assembly became expensive stump. Thanks for reply
I dropped the tank this morning. Was really easier than anticipated. The float was hung up on the wires. Thank you guys for the help. Love this site. Easy fixs are nice
I was actually so excited that it was the problem that I didn't think about it happening again. My stump pulling days are over lol. I had to leave after I got things buttoned up. But the tank is still down. I will have a look and see if its possible to get them out of the way.
ok since i didnt have the tank back up yet i did pull the o-ring off and pull the pump up. after looking at it i decided to put one zip tie to the fuel line that ran closest to it. really didnt seem like lot of room. wires and lines pull tight and i dont know enough about the actual pump at the bottom of the tank so i didnt pull alot. was also alot of dirt and dust around and was scared to get anything in the tank. My tank was strapped in to the skid plate with three bands. would have had to cut them to clean all rocks ect out from around the tank and wasnt sure how i would strap back together. so i did my little repair and replace the tank back up in the frame. fuel guage is working properly now. went and put gas in and it came up to where it should have and the trip computer gave me est miles to empty as should have. I'm sorry my knowledge isnt the greatest. but this site is making me learn every day. thanks to all that have posted
After you get the inlet tube\vent tube unhooked you can lower it part way. Then the fuel lines and wires run thru a holder that they need to pop out of. Then you can lower and disconnect every thing and slide out. I parked with the rear tires on the high side of a curb and had lots of room to play
I have a 2000 Ex and I just replaced my fuel pump only. I bought it at O'Reilly's the part number is E2318 and it was a Airtex pump. It was only $100 but came with the two strainers and tank seal which I though was a good deal. I bought the fuel filter also.
