My wifes fuel guage quit on our 2002 Escape. Can I replace just the sending unit or do I need to do the whole pump. I put a pump in it about 3 years ago and they are pricey. I was curious if anyone had any success fixing them or just replacing the sending unit.
I can't locate one on Napa online or Checker or Autozone so I am not sure if you can even get one.
Also what pump is the best. Checker sells both Airtex and Motorcraft but the price difference is about $140 and both have just a 1 year warranty.
Do you know that it is the sending unit and not the actual gauge? I'd hate to tear into the fuel tank, install an expensive pump module and find out that wasn't the problem.
Have you looked at local boneyards for a low-mileage wreck? Probably save a few bucks there and get an OEM part.
I pulled the pump to inspect it to see if i had a loose wire, or whatever. The float was stuck on the bottom of the tank. I worked it a little and now it works fine. It seems to be working ok now. At least that saved me $200.
