Well after filling up with super fuels, the next day my fuel guage in my 1999 V10 SD quit working. The guage is showing I have a full tank of gas when I know I'm below a quarter tank. This same problem happened about one year ago. I took it in and had the fuel sending unit replaced, and now it has quit working again, one year later. Any suggestions. Thanks.
I had the same thing happen about a year ago with my 2000 X. I thought it was the fuel sending unit. After I removed the fuel tank the problem was the float had caught on a wire from the sending unit. I freed up the float and used a nylon wire tie to make sure it didnt happen again. A real PITA for a simple fix. Have not had a problem with it since. My happened the next day after a fill up. I don't know anyway to check it without removing the fuel tank. good luck. VHolt

I know the sending unit must be burnt out again cause the night I shut off the engine I had a quarter tank left and the next morning it was reading full. Kinda sounds like to me that these ford gas sending unit are faulty
Just bought a 2002 Excursion V-10 4x4 a couple of days ago. Went I finally got around to filling the tank, the gauge won't go more than a little above half a tank. New to the excursions, not sure if this is common
Before you replace the fuel level sensor try a bottle of TECHRON from Chevron.
Some fuels cause a coating on the level sensor causing it to read incorrect. This
is what General Motors has us gm techs do before replacing the level sensor
under warranty!
You may also try tapping the gas tank with a rubber mallot. Not too hard it's a plastic tank. Level may be stuck. Just a thought .Tim
I know for sure nothing mentioned will fixed this. The first time the fuel gauge quit working, I had the mechanic save it for me and it had look like it had shorted out after filling up with superfuels. A year later and it has done it again so I'm sure it's all burned up again.
