These engines are known for reliability and longevity not HP!!
Oh theyre starting to get known. Ill bet theres at least 20 hi-po IDI build threads that have started in the last 6 months. Just because nobodys done it yet, doesnt mean it cant happen. NMB2 is the proof.
S- series, would that be the IDI's in the obs supderdutys?? I never knew there where any different model of engines, just 6.9 and 7.3 with all the same stuff.
last time i check cold air allows for more power. correct me if i am wrong. i am almost done with my wannabe hypermax cowl intake in hopes of getting more cold air. I will post pics of my set up monday.

My cold air intake dropped my egt 200* under full load.
The s series IH trucks have a cold air intake already thru the hood /cowl.
You both have turbos'. He does not. The way I read it he is talking about installing a cold air intake on a NA IDI. With a turbo you generate much more than enough heat to warrant a cold air intake, but without one, as a performance mod, you would not see similar results IMHO.
Better to either bite the bullet and get a turbo or concentrate on other mods like exaust or electric fans ect. is all I am saying. BTW I still run a fan clutch, I know it works, I can see the results when I am towing my fifth wheel. Not endorsing electric fans, just putting it out there because it will increase available horsepower to the rear wheels which is what he was asking.
Mac.
