I have a e99 f250 7.3. I plan on doing some pretty good upgrades to the engine once the money presents itself off my money tree. Right now I have a 4" turbo back exhaust. Wildman chip soon, and then later down the road injectors, pump, ect. My question is what intake is best or most recommended for high power flow. There are some different ones a lot of guys have on here like the 6637, volant, AFE, and S&B. Are any of these really better then the others. I'm looking for one that will perform good with the minor upgrades I got now, but also down the road with the bigger performance. Will any of these hurt performance once the power is increased? Or would they all perform just as well later down the road. I rather pay the money now for the best, and not have to rebuy another one later because of restriction or lack of enough flow. Any suggestions or help is appreciated. Thanks
Yea, I've heard a lot about the 6637. Though it draws in the hot air from the engine compartment, the size of that filter is nice to draw in enough air. Is there a big enough advantage to go CAI with the zoodad, or is it so minimal that it doesn't matter and the 6637 actually be better?
There were some dyno tests done with the 6637 and a couple commercial CAI systems. The 6637 did VERY well against them telling me that the "cold" air getting drawn in isn't that much of a factor. If you go with the 6637, you won't be disappointed. You will hear new turbo noises, and some folks don't like it. To me, the biggest reason to go to a closed CAI system is if you don't like turbo noises. The numbers just don't show up on the dyno to justify it otherwise.
I like the 6637 and the way it sounds with the turbo. With so many running them on here I could not see it being a bad choice.Clay(Riffraff) has a good price on the kit for the CCV,filter, orings and Pete's cover.....Or you could just buy the filter

I would not post on here to start an argument on what is better.I go with mods that folks on here have tried and have results from. These guys/gals know there stuff and I listen to them.Read up on what has been said about the 6637 and then go with your budget and what you want.
The 6637 was the first mod I did. I, for one, definitely felt the difference off the line as compared to the stock box.
The whole cold air thing makes me wonder. In the winter time, at 30F outside, it sure doesn't seem to run any better than it does when it's 90F outside. So with the 60F difference, and no apparent change, I wonder if a cold air intake on these trucks is worthwhile.
I think it's personal opinion, I got my airaid off ebay used. Had I known that i could have done the NAPA filter cheaper I might have gone that route. For what I payed I think I did all right. To do it again I'd get the 6637 filter.
Im running the 6637 on my e99 and i love it... the turbo whistle is so noticeable throughout the rpm range that my ricer friend swore up and down that i needed extra grounds on my headunit to get rid of the interferance... i had to explain that the noise he was speaking of is from spark plugs and real trucks dont have spark plugs he still insisted it was radio interferance till i turned the headunit off... clay is a great source for everything 7.3 ... u shuld do the ccv mod while u are there ...
Ps e99 needs elbow for the 6637 i got a stainless piece from napa 4" 45* elbow with 8" sweep i think...i know the part number is here some where

Clay and I monitored our intake temps when traveling together, while moving they were within a couple of degrees. He has the 6637, and I have the AFE stage 2. Definitely better to go with the 6637 and use the rest of the money you save for another mod.
I suggest S&B. Their flow and filtration numbers are some of the best out there and they replace the entire airbox and battery tray. They are also available with a dry filter now if you want to go that route. Here is a link with more info.
Once again as usual, I will be the odd man out. I am a very, very big fan of the 6oh retrofit. Its cheap, has the best filtration possible (same donaldson powercore type filter as the AIS) and is oriented the correct way, and still draws air through the zoodad hole, just like the stock, and cold air setups. 6oh folk say its their best option to 500 hp, due to the best filtration. On average youll spend $50 for the setup, from someone who has "upgraded" their 6oh intake, and a little bit of fabrication to turn the battery, and your in a high filtration, high flow, low noise intake.
For what its worth, I have ran the AFEII, AIS, Stock, and the 6oh. The 6oh being BY FAR my favorite. The 6oh filter also has a life cycle of 50,000-100,000 miles depending on the amount of dust you put your truck through. Talk about LOW maintenance.
I like the AIS intake coupled with the Zoodad mod. Looks good, gives better then factory filtration and air flow and pulls in outside air, and looks good installed. Also gives good access to the drivers side battery compared to OEM setup.
