Looking at buying a new drivers side door for my f150. just wondering what kind of quality aftermarket doors are out there. Just wondering where you bought yours and if they fit well and held up good.
Save yourself the headache, go to the junkyard or look on ebay and also here for used oem doors. I bought 2 doors a few years back from lmc and after i painted my truck and was installing all my door glass the doors seams split apart. AFTER the paint job. Grrrrr
Although LMC gave me my money back on the doors even after the 12 month warrenty passed. Long story short get used OEM doors!! thats just my 2 cents
I second that. Buy factory doors, even if they require a little body work. You will rest easy knowing they will fit much better than the aftermarket junk. They are a much more solid door as well.
It would probably be your cheapest bet to get the doors from the junkyard too. I wouldn't think that LMC's would be easy on the wallet. Plus, you can't really beat OEM fit.
X3, go the junkyard route, most pick-n-pulls are littered with pretty decent doors, typically in the $50-75 range, the doors are one of the few body parts on our trucks generally not prone to rust, hence the cheap prices and plentiful supply.
I bought two doors from Rock Auto to speed up my restoration. The pass side door is OK and it fits. The drivers side is not as good and will require body work. Like the other guys said OEM doors are the way to go if you have thetime to look for some and do the body work. The fit of the anti rattle kits on the aftermarket doors is marginal, nothing is like the OEM doors but for the sake of time and aftermarket door will work. NPD has some left hand originals but they are pricey, I think dennis carpenter aftermarket doors would be what I would try if I was going to order them again.
FWIW: I went the aftermarket door route many years ago and hated the fitment from day one. I now have two OEM doors from a truck I parted last year. They need slight rust repair, but they'll be a welcome addition to my rig.
P&P's price on doors complete with hinges out here in Cali is 60.00 plus a 5.00 core charge. That's cheap; never thought of checking before... Especially if you could find a set with all the anti-rattle stuff, ect in good shape.
I would not recomend aftermarket doors, I put them on mine and the pass side fit ok but the drivers side the body lines did not line up. I found a NOS at denis carpenter or national parts depot. That was 4 yrs ago. If the shell is not too bad you can get new skins for them. The aftermarket ones are not as thick of sheet metal.
finding oem doors was my first plan. but living in southern indiana i cant find many that dont have the inner shell rotted out so i figured i would buy aftermarked and make them work but after hearing all you comments i dont even think i want to go down that road.
grinngetter-- where in indiana are you located if you have a set of doors i might just have to take a road trip one weekend i could use a set of fenders also
