This morning I went out hunting. When I got in the truck and turned my lights on, the dash lights didn't. All the other times I just have to turn the switch a little because the spring is bent a little and has some gaps. But they always worked.
Is there a fuse? What would cause them to die? My turn signals recently died but I have used the dash lights since this and they worked fine.
There is a small fuse panel under the dash. it is a true pain in the @$$ to work with. I want to say its actually easier to get to if you remove the metal panel that covers the gauges with glass. It is on the driver's side.
There are only a couple fuses, but it only takes one to cause a problem.

The fuse panel in your truck should be just above the dimmer switch on the fire wall inside your truck. The wiring diagram I am looking at shows a red wire going from there to your dash lights. Going by this it looks like it is fused. If you were having to jiggle your switch the problem may be there. Possible you have lost a ground too. This will cause the lights to stop working.

My thought is bad headlight switch. Possible fuse.
I will have to check my fuses. There is only 5. I have a spare headlight switch from the junkyard. I will swap it in.
I had a problem with my truck blowing the fuse that has the dash lights and if i remember right the tail lights. It blew pretty much every time i turned the headlights on. After tracing out all of the wiring to find a short it wound up that the license plate light was loose and was rattling and shorting out. So it sounds stupid but check your license plate light if its on the same fuse
First off... Fuse block location... On 64 trucks the block does double duty as its also where the headlight switch plugs into so its at the underside of the dash below the light swich.
65-66 2WD F100/250 are on the firewall above the dimmer swich about 4-5"
If the headlight switch is bad and you are working on the 64 it will most likely have a spacer between the switch and the dash for better clearance/access to the fuse block. Sometimes they are spotwelded to the switch... Somtimes not. The ones not spotweldex make it a pain to get everything lined up so the screw can be put in from the frontside.
If after pulling the switch down and the winding looks okay as this is what ghey work off of then check the fuse and ground wires.
I follow the same thought as the headlight switch could be the problem on my 66 I could pull out to get headlight but the dash wouldn't light up. after tightening the assembly everything worked fine.
I found the problem while working on my turn signals. The wire coming of the back of the fuse box was busted off. I soldered it back on and it works perfect.
