Sorry to see Frazier gone. He was one of the few left from the golden age of boxing. I remember him decking Ali, and it was an exciting moment. No one around my house liked Ali, but we did learn to respect him. Frazier was a class act.
Heavyweight championship fights were a much bigger big deal then (remember closed circuit tv?) than now...to me, anyway. Fighters wanted to fight the best fighters. Now days guys duck fights with worthy opponents, and promoters won't even try to make a fight that matters.
Frazier wasn't the greatest technician but he was a hell of a brawler. Took a lot of punishment but dealt out his fair share at the same time. Seemed to be a fairly humble man too. But I guess anyone seems humble when compared to Ali.

Indeed.
One of his quotes has helped me whenever my will got a bit weak..."Do your road work, because you are the last person in the world you want to fool."
RIP Smokin Joe
I agree, I was never an Ali fan, but did learn to respect his ability. Smokin Joe was my fave back then, and I also agree about the fights meaning more back then.
Smokin Joe was the last of the truly humble boxers! I remember as a kid going to the Barber shop to watch the fight, because "Swede" the barber had the closed circuit TV feed. I was 10 as I recall, and it was the man thing to do! Everyone wanting to see Smokin Joe rip Ali's big mouth right off his face...... My Dad, Brother, and about 20 others sitting in the Barber shop cheering each big hit! What a time that was!

That sounds fantastic.
Wish I'd have witnessed it.
