Transmission problem

I have a 97 F 150 which I bought new 4.6 v8, not sure what trans is in it. My problem just started the other day, I was driving along and going up a slight incline and the trans let out a couple of bangs and the truck bucked a few times. The next day I checked the fluid and all was fine, I just used the truck today and the overdrive light is now blinking. The trans shifts thru all gears fine and go's into overdrive with no problem. I also took it out of O/D and did a manual shift and it went thru the gears fine and when I put it back into O/D it shifted just fine. Now the O/D light is constantly flashing. The Truck just turned over 211,000 miles, any suggestions would be helpful. The last filter change was done at 150,000 miles.

Its probably on its way out thats all, mine went at about 225k, the pan was full of clutch material and everything else. They just dont last forever. Mine eventually culminated with you not being able to come to a complete stop or the engine would dye and it happened to me about 75 miles from home, was a fun drive back.

Sometimes a hiccup in a shift or the torque converter can trigger the flashing light. I'd have the drive train scanned for the fault codes before you do anything. Might be a $50.00 part, like a solenoid failing. Could be as simple as a harness problem.

My truck did something similar a year or so ago. I was driving and it started jerking and the od light started flashing. I noticed that the gear selecter was in between drive and second. I moved it all the way to drive and it smoothed out but the light kept flashing. I pulled over , shut it off, and took the neg battery cable off and on then the flashing light was gone and I never had it happen again.
