Hi all.. was just wondering what is the best way to clean my TB and upper intake ports. Also what is the best way besides sandblasting to clean the aluminium intake and throttle bod? I have a 00 f150 4.2L had a misfire lean code the infamous 171 code. So pulled the injectors got brand new ones now onto the cleaning process so i can put it all back together. Besides brass wire brushes and TB cleaner for the TB what else can be used to clean the ports? Sea foam lube? Any opinion on sea foam for gas tank when all put back together? Obviously all new gaskets. Any opinions would be appreciated.
If you are trying to restore the aluminum intake to a nicer newer finish, you can use an anti tarnish metal cleaner. Not sure if it will work, but worth a try. Because of the rough finish and the nature of aluminum to oxidize, if I were that concerned about its finish, I would take it a step further.
One the cheap end you can paint it with a good paint designed to withstand engine conditions. They have several colors. The paint will prevent the metal from oxidizing, and is much easier to clean than the bare metal.
As for the intake, I would just use the brake and TB cleaner. The brake cleaner is a great prep, since it doesn't evaporate as quickly. It can soften and dissolve the deposits. Then the TB cleaner can get rid of the stubborn stuff and wash away the brake cleaner.
Clean the MAF with a specially made MAF cleaner. Spray it repeatedly, then let it sit before spraying it again. You want the deposits, if any are present, to have a chance to break down, then the next spray can blast them loose and rinse them off.
Besides replacing the gaskets, check all vacuum, evap, and PCV hoses for weaknesses or cracks. Replace the PCV valve with a Motorcraft one.
