Challenging Ford for the 6.0L

Has anyone challenged Ford for the cost to repair problems they've had with their 6.0L? We all know that Ford rushed the 6.0L onto the market after slapping weak faulty emissions parts on to it to make the EPA happy. I have 128,000 miles on my '05 F250 and consider myself very lucky but now the head gaskets are starting to go. So far I've already replaced the high pressure oil pump and gotten the EGR fixed/replaced. I know it seems crazy for one guy to stand up and call BS against a huge company but that's what it is. Total Bull**it. Ford put out a weak product and we all shouldn't have to suffer the consequences to fix it. $5,000 to fix their engine might be nothing to Ford but it's more than I can afford. Especially since I'm unemployed after recently getting out of the military. I just wanted to see how everyone else felt and get some other peoples opinion on this.

Thanks,

Eddie

I hear you man but you gotta suck it up and drive on. No one made you buy it. Its on you to research your purchase and deal with things as they happen. Ford is not at fault. Honestly, its that kind of mindset that is wrong with our country....there is no sense of personal responsibility!

I hope that you can figure out the issues and keep truckin.

HPOP failures are fairly rare on 05 and later 6.0s. Did you have a pump failure or a snap-to-connect failure? STC failures are common on 05 and later 6.0s.

If you had an EGR cooler failure, those are not that uncommon but are an effect of oil cooler plugging. If you had an EGR cooler failure, I hope they replaced the oil cooler when they replaced the EGR cooler. If not, you'll probably have another EGR cooler failure in the near future. It's possible your EGR cooler is going again and not your HGs?

Were the HPOP and EGR problems addressed under warranty? If so, it was on Ford's dime and not yours (except for the deductable).

Do you have any mods or is your truck bone stock?

How many miles do you expect to go before you have an issue? What's a reasonable repair cost? One thing about diesels is that they are expensive to fix when they do break.

During warranty my 2003 6.0 F250 was in the shop a total of month the first year then not so much until it was out of extended warranty. Then in 2010 needed main bearing seal fixed cost about 1500. So I had had enough and trade for a F250 6.2 and never looked back. Love the new gas motor but still miss the diesel torque. But it pulls my 30fttravel trailer just fine.

Like with any car once you hit over that 100K mark various parts start to break. I don't know if Ford puts out such info other than tiny print but would be nice if they'd produce a DVD showing & stating the importance of the common maintenance tasks (OEM filters, oil change, coolant, battery charge, checking DTC's) including things like fuel quality. I think this would be especially helpful to first time diesel owners. One thing I learned is I'll never whine about paying for additional warranty coverage.
