My problem is that the dealership said that they can only pull codes if the CE light is currently on when they try to pull. The light comes on only ocasionally with the problem. And when it does come on it's only on for a few seconds. They charge $118 dollars for a diagnostics. I am just at a loss. I will check for the melted connections. Thanks again for all the help. This is becoming very frustrating.
The ford dealer must be idiots. If the cel came on, the code will be stored in there to get. And for 118 bucks, I'd maybe call some local shops and see if they can read the codes. Snap On makes one also and some shops will more than likely have something.
DanimalAnimal, that's why I hate going to dealerships.
In case this helps, I just swapped my Camshaft Position Sensor with one from Ford. Time will tell if this solved the problem.
Before I swapped it this morning I noticed the engine made a noticeable hiccup on an occasional intermittent wiper trigger. Didn't happen every time, but happened often enough for me to make the mental connection between the two.
And bouncing the truck over railroad tracks, etc didn't seem to cause an engine stumble.
yeah they are That's a good idea I with the wires. I will give that a try. I asked them if they would be stored in the memory of the computer. The dealership said that they wouldn't. I have heard that the truck will store them for some time. Is that true? thanks again for the help.
[QUOTE=427 fordman;10955988]No limp mode with cps failure./QUOTE]
Mine was running under its own power for about 4 miles, albeit severely reduced power. Hmm.... So far I haven't had any reoccurrence with the new CPS but I'm hopeful. Either way I plan on getting to my buddy's house that has a real scanner and will get the codes.
Four things to add to my "to do" list:
Get a spare CPS.
Get my codes scanned.
Research the ScanGuage further.
Start watching for a spare IDM.

If you want a spare IDM, there are a few guys on here parting out trucks. Go to the classifieds if you want. I did the 140V mod on mine and got a spare 120V idm (remanned) from ebay for 130 bucks or so. Ours stock are 100v. 120's are on superdutys. Hope your cps works out for you, definitely get a spare. Being able to read codes and watch real live data with the scangauge is great. Worthwhile investment if you have the spare cash sometime.
