Has anyone ever figured out a dollar value for parting out a Powerstroke engine?
Ive got one with issues , its losing coolant somewhere?
Its not leaking or going in the oil so I guess its going out the tail pipe?
Im thinking about junking the truck.
Its got a brand new clutch and pressure plate. (50 miles)
Then everything else , injectors , alternator , starter , sensors , rad , transmission, rear ends etc.
Its a F-350 4x4 dually flatdeck.
Seems like it's normally worth whatever the person who wants it the most will pay. One of you may sell injector cores for $500 and the other may only get $200. You can always hold out for your price but run the risk of not selling.
This is what I was told about this truck"
It runs alright except for losing all the antifreeze. After the truck sat all night I cracked the oil drain plug in the morning. Straight oil. If it was going in the oil it would settle to the bottom and come out first. I'm sure it's going out the exhaust. I changed oil as soon as I got the truck. About 1000 km. ago. It was down a gallon of oil the other day. There seems to be a bit to much presssure in the base. Quite a bit out the dipstick when it's running. It actually pushes raw oil out the stick if you take the stick out. I'm not sure if all that sludge in the oil has something to do with it. I had the valve covers off and put those new glow plugs in it. When the valve covers were off I got to clean out the top end. Lot's of sludge in there too. Any chance that could be cuased from old antifreeze sitting in it the oil for a long time? It could have been mixing for a while and no-one noticed it."
So the truck has enough blow by to push oil out the dip stick?
Well, if he's loosing coolant into the cylinder, that would create massive blow by due to extra pressure in the cylinders of the motor, which would push oil out the dipstick.
if I were him, I'd pull both heads and see whats going on. You can change the cups while its in the truck, but he might need new head-gaskets too (doubt it)
But with the heads off, you can give it a valve job and it will really be nice after that.
The only other thought i have, and pulling the heads would reveal this, is if you do or also have a cracked piston or a hole in it causing excessive pressure blow by into the crank case due to coolant getting into the cylinder.
While the heads are off, i'd turn the motor over by hand and check the TDC measurements of each cylinder also to make sure there isn't a bent connecting rod due to hydro-lock.
Thanks guys that gives me something to9 think about at any rate.............
I was ready to give up on it but its not a bad truck and just put a new clutch and pressure plate in . 3 weeks ago, plus new exhaust and shocks , so maybe I should try and fix it.
