Spent most of my Saturday afternoon on this project. Including an hour to buy more bedliner. we will see how it lasts over the long haul.
The only disappointment that I have is that the plastic modlings all are faded and don't even ccome close to matching the bedliner material...Ideas?
That looks like just the stuff I was looking for my oil pan i t has been rusting so the past couplwe weelends Iv been cleaning te rust off I more time to clean the rust and I think that Im going for it and also want to do the frame
I wanted to find some good ruberized paint or something
so this stuff that you used really looks like what Im after was it rubberized and was it a spray or brush on or what
I really like the looks of it
I did paint it oil pan and the frame with some flat black spray paint and It didnt last long
I had my bumpers powder coated though before I put the newer gens on. I too removed the chrome rockers and let me tell you that was a pain! I ended up using the quad winch to pull them off. I put the knock off harley headlights on and an XL grill. I liked the beige and black look too!
I hate to admit that I used Duracoat from a spray can. I got it at O'Reilley's Auto. It worked but when the can got close to empty it splattered so I just had to make the coat a little thicker. Not a big deal for me since this rig will be mine until its dead or some unforseen reason.
Honestly, I hate chrome on vehicles (I like the XL Model's looks) but I like the interior of the Lariat so I have to get the chrome stuff and alter it. Its all personal opinion and choice.
What I did to prep it was 80 grit sand paper and my Dewalt drill. The biggest pain was the removal of the trim pieces on both the front and back!!! After that I laid one light coat and let it dry. After it was dry I put two more coats on back to back ie once I got the other side I started again with the next coat.
Time will tell how it lasts. I really want to do the rockers with bedliner but I just don't want the hassle with the chrome and paying someone to do the spraying!
....... The only thing I need to do now is get rid of the chrome rocker panels...I hate them!
Thad
A heat gun and a little prudence will get rid of them fairly quickly without destroying your clearcoat. You can use some WD-40 to dissolve the adhesive and then just wash your truck to get rid of the "solvent". I always hated having to find that crap when I did bodyshop parts, and I'm like you........I think it' fugly.
Maybe EODguyJake will post up a picture of his truck. He's got bumpers, rockers, and fender wells done in bedcoat and it looks killer.
