Block Heater

I have a 04 F350 SD, KR, 4x4. With the tempature starting to get colder, I am thinking of pluging in the block heater and have the "engine" and all parts connected to the heater warmed up so when I'm ready to go I can unplug and have a warm vehicle. I have looked were everyone is saying the wire is above the starter and I don't see on, I can't even tell if it has been equiped with a block heater. What are the best ways to tell that I have one and if the wire is there or if I need to get a wire?

A 2004 should already have the block heater cord installed. Look way up inside the bumper behind the passenger side tow hook. It'll be tied up there.

DTS Articles - 6.0L Block Heater Cord Location and Routing

The first picture is actually looking down on the starter. And down near the bottom is just how tough it is to find the cord. I could have sworn I didn't have one. I looked three times and finally found it. From the bottom, you would have to reach way up over the starter to feel the cord.

Thanks, I looked this time with a flash light above the starter and the cord is there and connected. I tried tracing the wire to see if everything was connected and unfortuanlly couldn't trace it all the way. I did fine a wire that looks like the same thickness of wire behind the radiator by the transmission filter under the front of the block (I forgot to take a picture). It looked like it was all connected and wraped in e-tape, then I went to the passenger hook and still using the flashlight found the plug and put the cover back on the plug. Before I plug it up I want to make sure everything is pluged in like it should so I don't short anything out, is there any way to make sure before plugging the power cord?

Only place to be concerned would be above the starter. Shouldn't be an issue, but that is where I'd look.

For giggles I did this last year:

This morning I plugged the block heater in. My Scangauge read 39 degrees.

1 hour later it was 80 degrees.

2 hours later was 94 degrees.

3 hours later it was 103 degrees.

4 hours later it was 110 degrees.

5 hours later it was 116 degrees.

Yes, 39 isn't that cold to start, but was interesting to see that it went from 39 to 80 in an hour.

Currently my oil temp in hour 3 is 77 degrees. It was 40 at starting point.

Oil temp after 4 hours is 91 degrees.

Might want to think about a timer to save on power bill. A lot of folks do. Heavy duty one you can find at the usual places, Lowes, Home Depot, Wal*Mart.
