How do I tell If my engine block heater is working or not. When I go to start it the temp gauge is on cold still. And if not I've, been looking at new ones and their are many diffenent sizes anyone know the size I need because the one auto Part store that carried Didn't know and and tried to sell me one the connects to the heater hose, the other ones in town don't have any yet.
You should be able to hear it working, sorta sounds like a coffee perk.Stick your head down by the pass front wheel after you plug it in.It wont move your temp guage. As for a new one,im not sure of the diameter, but any place that actually has a listing for it will know.If its not working make sure the cord is good, check to see if its plugged onto the heater.the location is behind the starter.
The original equipment block heater is in one of the soft plug ports on the passenger side of the block near the starter. When you first plug them in you can hear it kind of sizzle because it is heating the water. If your is not working because of the wire, you should be able to get new wire and if necessary, you should be able to get the whole thing. I believe I got one at a NAPA store. When you install the heater into the block, you have to be sure that the element is NOT touching the block anywhere. Hope this helps.
