As the old saying goes "You get what you pay for" For that price range they will have major problems/high mileage.

That's not "always true"

Some people have these trucks, and hit bad luck, and have to get rid of stuff, and they pretty much give these away.

Excellent example is my Daily driver '89 F150.

Bought for 300$, all it needed was a box, windshield (both removed), gas tank, rear brakes and a brake line, now it's been on the road for 2 years and the only problem i've had was the original radiator with plastic ends, it cracked and was leaking when it built pressure. Kid had bought it off his grandfather to restore it, and loss his job in the middle of it, so he had no choice to sell it. That's why he gave it away.

The truck had 093,810km (57k miles) on it when I bought it 2 years ago. Now has 112km (67k miles).

Runs like a top, not a spot of rust, needs a paint job though, but otherwise, fantastic truck!

i got my van for 800 with only 5000 miles after the rebuild (unknown on the body), current reading 82k, was 54 when i bought it in january. all its needed was plugs, return lines, one battery, shocks, radiator (later), heater core (a month after the rad), i'll just say i drove it home and started working out of it the next day, with never a breakdown that left me stranded. other repairs included vacuum pump, radio install, and other minor minor stuff.
94IDIturbo7.3, i have to say you picked up your truck for less than half of its scrap value, good find!!
to the OP, keep looking, you'll find one. i couldn't find a diesel van for less than 3k that ran for a few months, then the day i wrecked my LTD, the van appeared on CL for cheap.

It was more of a case of truck finding me. the PO used to work with my dad. Due to the awsome economy over the past few years they both lost their jobs. the PO had started up his own custom wookworking shop out of his barn. he asked my dad if he wanted to help him with a job.

That was around the same time that i was riding to school with my friend who's dad has a '93 F-250 7.3L IDI N/A. i thought the truck was pretty cool. my dad was telling me about the truck that this guy had and he said that he was looking to sell it since his mom just bought him a new f-150. my ears perked up. well some more time went on and i was still interested. my dad secretly talked to my mom about it. he then ran the idea past the PO, who talked it over with his wife. they liked the deal, so it went threw.

The Deal:
The PO wanted some shelving built in his barn for storage and stuff like that. so my dad gave him 3 weeks of his labor in exchange for the truck. in the first week of the 3 week deal my dad gets home from work and i go out side and see the truck sitting there. he expained to me the deal. all i had to pay was the gas for my dad to drive there for the 3 weeks. luckily for me he was driving his crown vic that gets good mpg. the mpg cost me $150. therefore i got the truck for $150.

I was totally unaware of what was going on until i saw a big silver diesel truck sitting in my driveway one spring, wednesday afternoon.

The truck has dumped some things in my face but it has been for the most part a fun learning experience.
