Hi. I usually post in the 86-97 forum. But I have a question. First off my father died 2 weeks ago. And he once helped my brother completely build a 1973 Pontiac Sprint. It was sweet as all get out. Well, my brother and me want to find another one to build in honor of daddy. But I'm clueless as to where to start looking. Anyone know where I can look on-line. I appreciate all your answers.
There was a Lemans/Tempest-based "Sprint" in the late 60's, but nothing I'm aware of from model-year 1973 with that name. Can you give us some more details? Was it a package for the Nova-based Ventura from that year, maybe?
Some referred to the straight six cylinder engine that Pontiac used in the Lemans and some Firebirds as the Sprint-Six. I also am only aware of the Lemans based Sprint, but keep us posted as I also am interested in old Pontiacs, when they actually built their own engines. I also am sorry to read of your fathers passing. That's a tough thing, I know.
I guess I have grown to be my father which is fine with me. I miss him more than anyone I've ever known, and he was a Pontiac nut. They were fine cars before GM decided to downsize and make everything a Chevy with different name plates and interiors. I currently own 3 Pontiacs, 2 of them being 1991 models, and the 3rd being a 2001. They are all garbage, and I will never own another GM vehicle unless it is a true Pontiac before they decided that corporate power is better than quality.

They are out there. They're not too expensive. The parts; however, are very scarce. Although they are a GM X-body (Nova, Ventura, Apollo, Omega), some parts are specific to Pontiac or specific to the year 1973. This means that when you do find a part, especially NOS, it will cost a small fortune. The decals are hard to come by, although I've heard someone is having them re-made. Below are some links to some great examples of a '73 Sprint. The first appears to be a GM photo.
While basic 1973 Venturas had a "split" four opening grille, the 1973 Sprint had a one-of-a-kind "firebird-style" grille. In 1974, all Ventura models would have the firebird-style grille, but a 1974's is different from a 1973's.
The Sprint came with sport mirrors, a sporty steering wheel, stripes & decals, and some other minor options. The option was known as W53 on the sheets.
I'd suggest doing a search of some of the more well-known sites on-line where cars (classic) can be bought, or keeping an eye open in the classic car car sale magazines.
a friend had a ventura when we were in high school in late 80's,but it wasn't a sprint, and I am not sure what year it was. he corrupted it by putting a chevy engine in it cause that is all he had laying around when the original blew up. chevy or not,it was a fast car for what little money he had in it!!
