This may have been covered already but I did not find it in a search. I have seen multiple tests that rate Opti-lube as either first or second in additive tests. It brought straight untreated diesel well within Bosch's specs. I am thinking about trying it even though it is a little pricier. I read somewhere that it had a high alcohol content which Ford did not recommend. I could not download the MSDS so was unable to verify its contents. Any help or feed back is much appreciated.
Do a search of optilube xpd msds and you will get the sheet, there is no alcohol in it. The price is about $38 a gallon which treats 500 gallon of fuel, Motorcraft PM-22 is about the same price, but it treats 1,000 gallons.
Just this week....I started using the OptiLube XPD fuel product....I have always used Ford fuel products before. I swiched mainly because of the OptiLube ranking in test and the benefits I would receive from using the product. I also today started using their Oil Fortifier......I added 20 oz to my existing oil... I will keep everyone posted....
Anybody that wants to compare the chemical make up of Motorcraft PM-22a the MSDS number for it is 178699. It's very similar to XPD except the PM-22 has no ethylbenzene in it.
I just compared the MSDS for Optilube XPD and PM-22 and I tend to disagree that they are similar. Granted I am no Chemical Engineer but I count 3 ingredients in PM and 10 in Opti-Lube. Can someone with some knowledge shed some light on this. From reading the PM-22 it looks like 98% is a carrier with 2 active ingredients. The composition of Opti-Lube XPD is much more complex and delivers more benefits I am guessing. Someone please help out.
Thanks for the input guys. Yes they are very different but no alcohol. I'll def give it a try the tests just speak for themselves. Looking forward to hearing some real world feedback.
I am going to start using the Opti-Lube based on what I have read on the MSDS. Seems like FoMoCo is selling very expensive "fuel" if I am reading those contents correctly. It would be nice if we had a Chemical Engineer online that could assist with thoughts. This combined with some very positive reviews has made my mind up. I am also going to look at their oil fortifier. Heck a few extra $'s to feel good is worth it.
Actually the Ford number is a reference to Ford's MSDS, I don't think it's a true MSDS because the ingredients on a 1 gallon can differ somewhat. The can lists hydrotreated light patroleum distillates, 2-ethylhexyl nitrate, 2-ethylhexanol, 1,2,4,trimethylbenzene, naptha, heavy aromatic napththalene.

I was wondering what you have noticed since this post? I am a DK user and looking into making a change if this product is better.
I've been using OptiLube XPD for the last 8k miles. Truck only has 12k on it. I buy it by the gallon and keep two of the 8oz bottles in my door pocket. I use it at about .5oz per gallon, they recommend .25-.5 oz/g. I usually add $65 of diesel at a time (running nearly $4 per gallon here) to keep things simple. If I am on a trip I grab the larger 16oz bottle and throw it in the truck to augment the two 8oz. It does seem to help fuel mileage, the rest remains to be seen. I do it mainly for the lubricity, as most reviews state it is the best in that department.

If I am not mistaken 5% biodiesel exceeded all others which is quite common to buy anymore. My state manfdates 2% bio so the only additive I use is a cetane booster.

Since I started using Opti-Lube XPD .....I have used it everytime I put fuel in my truck. At this time I now have almost 49,000 miles and I have not had any WIF light come on....I have not noticed any water in my fuel when draining a qty of fuel every week.....as for MPG I would be incorrect on any MPG increase.....I just don't pay much attention......I worry more about water in my fuel....So far I please with this product.....and will contuine to use it.....I will keep everyone posted.

Smoke, I believe you are expecting too much from your additive. The only thing an additive is going to do to water that will prevent it from showing up in your fuel/water separator is to emulsify it. This is BAD juju and can destroy your truck.
If you have water in your fuel there is only one good place for it to go, which is your DFCM which would eventually set your WIF light.
The lack of water in the DFCM means one of two things. 1: You aren't getting contaminated fuel or; 2: the water is getting emulsified. A good additive would demulsify water and leave it harmlessly in your DFCM.
So if your additive is responsible for your lack of water in the DFCM this is not a good thing!

Does the ford additive claim to demuslify? I cannot remember ever reading that an addative would do this? just looking for info, dealer is picking up my new truck out of state for me at a very reasonable price and I told him i wanted the ford additive put in the tank from the first fill up ( and bring me the empty bottle)
