P1280 code

P1280 code

I have a 2002 Excursion Ltd with the 7.3 and my engine light was on so when I checked it I got a P1280 code (ICP Low). I checked the sensor and it is not leaking oil and wiggled the wires around inspecting for possible damage. When I started the truck the warning light was out. The light stayed out for a few days which made me think the connection might have been slightly loose and re-connected when I jiggled the wires during my inspection. Yesterday the light came back on and the truck stalled at idle once. . Any ideas what to check next?

I believe you can unplug the ICP and the truck should run without it. It will bypass the ICP and it should not trip SES.

Check the wire harness at the 42 pin connector. It may be rubbing on the valve cover and has chafed causing an intermittent short.

I had a similar problem, but the wiggle test did nothing for me. I had some idle issues with SES and nothing would change when I completely unpluged the ICP. I ended up buying a new ICP harness from the Ford house. Helped the rough idle some and got rid of the SES. Sounds like the wiggling made the connection and driving it wiggled it loose again. Did you try reseating the connector again and see if the SES goes away for another couple of days?

It will run without it plugged in, it WILL trip a SES.

I have the same problem with my truck, you can buy just the connector and pigtail at napa, I replaced mine since it was pulling the ICP code even after ICP sensor replacement. It still does it on my truck when it is hot out and the oil is getting close to change time.
When I find the time and money, I will get a set of O-rings and pull the injectors to check them all out.

P1280 is usually the code that shows up when the ICP is unplugged, so checking for chaffed or shorted wires is the place I would start. If the wires short together or against ground it could cause the stall or the code showing it was unplugged.

I'd start at the plug and trace the wires back and also check the wires at the 42 pin connector like Robin suggested.

I'm using a borrowed computer right now so I don't have access to all my files. The attached thread has a link to a pin out for a 2000 model. You'll probably want to find a pin out for the 02 model to be on the safe side.
