I have a 1999, f/350, 7.3l diesel, air conditioner, 4x4, quad cab w/ 155k mileage. While driving in town and stopped at a stop light my service engine soon light came on, assuming it could be a million things I dismissed it and headed for home. At the next light I noticed it felt as if was running on seven cylinders, or missing. I limped home and parked it for 48 hrs. When I started it the light was off and it ran fine. After about 10 mile the light came on and the it began to idle rough. My shop guy ran a code check for free and said it was a "ford" code and could be anything from a CPS to a valve cover? Ideas?
As Ronnie said... You have to have special software or code reader for a powerstroke ford. What ever his reader came up with was probably not accurate. You need to find a friend near you that has a proper code reader... Let us know what the #'s and we will get you pointed in the right direction.
It sounds like the famous under the valve cover/s piece of junk plastic 9 pin connector has come loose.. the locking tabs warp from the heat and allow the connector to separate and then you get the SES light and rough running engine..see the recent thread the this problem.. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...ck-shakes.html
