Just bought a '95 F-250 7.3 with the e40D.
Not sure if it's the Tranny or what but it is really slow and trany is shifting very weird.
The Speedometer and Odometer is not working and I read the forums and bought a new VSS sensor from Ford ($80 bucks, isn't that a little high?) but that did not fix the problem.

Get codes with an scanner and then go from there.
Does the OD light is blincking (spel?)
I JUST had this problem. I replaced my gauge cluster and everything works perfect! I'd try the vss first tho, because from what I found out that can also cause the same issue.
Went to Autozone they said there were no codes, but I just saw a post that they can't read pas codes.......
I did replace the VSS, didn't help.
Saw a post about the gauge solder points maybe I will take the dash apart and check the circuit board.
How much did Ford want for the gauge circuit board?

If you did not disconnect the batteries it will stay in limp in mode and shift funny.
