how hard is it to replace the shift actuator?
when you start out driving you have to put it in 1st then 2nd then (D).
is it the shift actuator thats bad or is it the tranny going south?
thanks

What tranny does it have? Is it the 3 speed?
Or is there a OD cancel switch on the column shifter?

I suspect a bad seal in the forward clutch. Same answer for either the three speed or the four speed.

No such thing. It's a four speed overdrive.

It's a rebuild. The trans comes out of the truck and gets torn down. While it is apart it makes sense to rebuild it.

A rebuild is more than $2000 and less than $5000 depending on how strong you have it built. A Craigslist trans is less than that. Remember, you get what you pay for.
