E350 Front door speakers

What is (are?) the size of the front door speakers in a 1997 E350?

Thanks! I'm sure they're the same size.

They could have been 4 x 6, but 5 x 7 looks right when I stare at the grill covers.

Appreciate it.

6 x 8 for the door speakers, although 5 x 7 will work with an adapter plate. I just replaced all 6 of mine.

Thanks!

What did you do with the factory wiring harness connector/plug when you changed the speakers?

(One of my rear speakers is missing and am trying to choose best way to replace them all.)

Crutchfield should have suitable adapters that connect to the factory harness with leads that attach to aftermarket speaker terminals. Honestly Crutchfield has such an array of wiring products they're hard to be for selecion and convenience in ordering.

I've been a Crutchfield client since before the internet existed and everything was (snail) mail-order. I've seen the oem-aftermarket adapter they offer. Thanks.

My question was kind of 2-parts and I should have explained it that way. I haven't seen the OEM speakers yet, I've only seen the wiring left behind where someone relieved me of my missing speaker.

So part #1 of the question is: do the OEM speakers have the male end of the harness permanently attached to them?
When I get into replacing all of the OEM speakers, will I need to get an adapter for each (if I decide to not solder the new speakers)?

I don't plan to replace the stock speaker wiring unless it was damaged by the thief.

And part #2 was: how did you decide to make your connections?

Appreciate the help.

I'll post a few photos in just a short while----might be helpful if its not too late already.

All right, here ya are:

These are of an actual OEM speaker, 1997 E250:

This is the Crutchfield adapter coming from OEM wiring harness to aftermarket speaker terminals:

Part 2 Not sure if this addresses it: Where ever possible I used the factory wiring however on my new-to-me '00 E250 cargo van I had to run wiring to rear-most doors. I found a scrap yard E van with full wiring and removed its wiring in order to add it to mine. In your case you'll need only the body-side harness connectors at the most---those would then directly fit the OEM speakers.

IF you go with aftermarket speakers I'd replace any damaged OEM connectors with suitable scrap yard connector ends then use the Crutchfield adapters.

I hope this gets closer to what you're asking.

Perfect! I can't thank you enough. Haunted the local Ford dealership trying to find out if the stock speakers had a short adapter - like those from Crutchfield - or had the plug permanently attached to the speaker.

Now I know... and now I know all that I need to order to replace the rear speakers.

I really appreciate the time you spent helping me.
