I replaced my fuel filter with one I bought from NAPA. It was one with a built in cap and cost $60
I had a water in fuel light come on and needed to change the filter right away
I should have kept my old original cap.
The NAPA filter lasted about a month.
I went to replace it with an original and the NAPA filter came out in parts. First the filter came out but it left behind the rubber stand pipe and the metal bottom.
I had to pry them out.
The heating element was broken loose from its mounts also so I removed it for good.
There was lots of dirt in the bottom of the bowl so I cleaned it with a rag and a brush.

No more NAPA filters. I buy from Clay now.
Sorry to hear that, those Ford caps are expensive, but IMO that is the way to go based on quality of filtering as well as low price.
