02 Excursion

Howdy Folks --

I am new here and this is my first post.

02 7.3 Excursion, 140K miles, lots of off road use, new ball joints at 135K.

I can hear a metal-to-metal thunking noise when going over bumps, no matter how small the bumps are. The noise is from the front. I put the vehicle on a lift and noticed the following:

The rubber bushings are shot on the following components:
steering damper, both stabilizer links and the stabilizer bar.

I found the parts -- the entire part only, not just the bushings.

Both bump stops are gone.

Questions:

Do you have to replace the entire part even though the bushings only appear perished?

Does the suspension have to be unweighted to R/R these parts?

Thank you in advance for any information. Also, any lessons learned pertaining to this repair are welcome.

Thanks,
voodiloquist

It sounds a lot like what is happening to my same X. i have a 2002 7.3L and my sway bar link arm bushings are gone. When i first heard the noise i sprayed some white lithium grease on them and it went away for the time being now i just need to replace them.
