I've got an annoying suspension squeek in the front end of my 02 Exploder... seems like it's the sway bar bushings, as speed bumps tend to accentuate it. Question: Where can I get good bushings (Urethane, etc), and is this something I can do in my driveway? I'm pretty handy---Anybody done this repair themselves? BTW, the damn things squeeked in the winter of the second year I owned it... How much did Ford save putting these crappy quality bushings on?
i'd like to know too, where you can get those kinds of bushings. cant find them anywhere. i have the knocking sound going over slight bumps.... probably some bushing down there needs to be replaced.....
Exploder02, you might want to lay under the front end and push up on the bumper and see if the squeek is in the lower ball joints. They are notoriously noisy on these things.
4.0 Beast, you might have the stabilizer bushing making some noise, does it rattle on bumps?
Just some ideas.
Pretty sure it's not the ball joints, they just replaced the lower control arm on the driver side (got ran HARD into a curve, bent it pretty good.. noise was there before this, BTW)... squeek is the same... I've seen other threads where folks have had this same issue on older explorers, and the last time I looked at the sway bar bushings, they looked a pretty worn. I just want to know where I can get GOOD bushings, and what it takes to change 'em.
it doesnt rattle, you can just hear a knocking noise when driving under 15 mph. in my apt. complex, the road is not even, and driving over it causes the noise more so than in other places.... but its always there.
