Front end noise

I just noticed a front end clunk noise. It happens when I go over bumps. I did a search and most people say it is sway bar bushings. How can I tell if that is the cause and how hard is it to fix, if that is what it is? This web site has helped me a lot in the past few weeks. Thank you everybody

I willing to bet it's you sway bar drop arm bushing. The easiest way to be sure is to take the swaybar and drop links off and drive for a while. It won't hurt a thing and I have done it for up to 2 weeks. If that stops the noise, then it's time to replace the bushing.

You can disconnect the sway bar and then drive it. If the noise goes away, that is your problem. I just replaced mine. I ordered the bushing set for the drop links and sway bar for Energy Suspension. The kit was $41 to the door. The OEM bushing in the drag links can be a little hard getting out. I sprayed them down good with WD-40 and let it soak for awhile. The bushings only come out from one side, you will be able to tell which side. I used a couple of sockets and a 5lb hammer to knock the bushing out.

The truck rides alot better with the new bushings. And no more "clunk" when riding over bumps! Hope this helps....

If it is the bushings and I replace them will the front end need to be aligned after that?

Have your Ball Joints checked. Mine went bad at 65K. Clunks over bumps and when I hit the brakes. The factory installed joints are sealed. Also I had a sway bar bushing bushing pop out on the left side, put a few wraps of black tape around the outside of the bushing and re-install it.

This problem ended up being a broken leaf in the rear leaf springs. It is the second one from the bottom. Does anyone know if you can just chage out the broken one instead of the whole pack? If I change the whole pack I would have to do both sides . I don't have that type of money right know

Thanks for everyone who helped out

See if you can locate one from a salvage yard, there are a bunch of 99's out there. Or a spring shop can make you a new leaf and replace the broken one. I think you can just repair the one side with no problems.
