I am trying to replace the speed sensor in my 1992 F250. It is located in the rear differential, but I can't figure out how to remove the old one. Anyone know how to do this?
To start with the VSS variable reluctance AC generator very seldom goes bad but a lot of of them get replaced with the problem remaining.
As you can see it is held on with one bolt but the "O" ring can make it stick in place.
You can try spraying PB around it and then try twisting it to brake the "O" ring free.
The problem is you will more than likely brake the VSS and there will be a part of it still in the hole and you may have to take the cover off to get it out.
If you do get it out and you have a bad rear end with junk stuck to the VSS try wiping it off and then put it back in. See if this fixes your problem.
