I finally got my new clutch through the 500 mile break-in period, so Saturday some friends were going muddin. I got into it a bit, and now my oil temp is a little lower than my coolant temp. Still within 15 degrees at 65mph. But if I stop at a light oil drops to about 180 while coolant stays at 190 - 195. Never once went more than 15 though. My question is has anyone ever seen anything like this? And is that bad for the motor?
I see it all the time, but I have an air cooled oil cooler. Bad for the engine? No... Weird? Yes.
Check your starting temps after a long cold soak and see if the oil and coolant temps are close, real close.
Possible bad sensor. I don't see how your oil temps could ever be lower in the OEM cooler unless the oil isn't up to temp yet. Just seems to go against some law of nature...
That's what I thought. Today I had to drive about 72 miles round trip. Before the way back after the truck sat for a few hours. I started it and both temps were within 3 degrees of each other. Let it idle for a min before taking off like I always do then took off. Both temps climbed like normal while driving. Bit its like the oil hit its cap.
No, I always spray everything off and let it dry for a few hours before I even think of starting it. I'm not using or Puking any coolant, and I have studs. Is it possible to un-clog an oil cooler by pushing the truck? I was even careful to watch the temps while in the mud. Never let it get past what I get on the highway.
Update: when starting the truck this morning, EOT was 80, ect 82. Let EOT hit 100 before taking off, ect was 114. Now about 10 mins later EOT is sitting at 130 ect is 132
