I have what I thought was classic FICM problems: Long crank times in the morning and when she finally starts she runs rough for a minute or so. After it warms up it runs fine and starts fine for the rest of the day. After quite a bit of research I was convinced it was the FICM starting to go bad. I downloaded the detailed FICM repair procedure from this site and set aside a whole day this weekend to repair. I prepared to do the repair and tested the FICM with a voltmeter just to make sure it was the problem. Voltmeter showed 48.7 volts--exactly within specs. What else could be the problem? Could I have a loose solder somewhere that makes it sometimes show good? I didn't take the FICM apart after I tested it because I was stumped that it would show good.
Did you test it with key on/engine off - write down result. Then test it with someone starting the engine.....result? Then test with engine at 2000 RPM. NOW what do you have?
I rechecked https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...procedure.html and I couldn't find it either. I saw it somewhere...just don't remember where. I think it had to do with making sure it didn't go OVER the 48v while at 2000RPM's. You DID check it while going from key off to key on, right? During the buzz test.
