I have a 2008 F450 4X4 and have fluid leaking out of the PTO. The truck has a 15KW generator that was installed before we bought the truck. Where can I get a new gasket?? Will I loose all of the tranny fluid if I pull off the cover?? My oldest son said that I could use gray RTV as a gasket. Just checking to see if anyone had had this problem before.
Do you have a PTO installed or is the factory cover over the opening leaking?
If you have a PTO installed, I think you have to use a gasket with the right size thickness because the thickness of the gasket will change the depth at which the gears mesh. If the gasket is too thick the gears aren't meshed deep enough and if the gasket is too thin the gears are jambed/meshed too tight. A PTO leaking is very common.
If just the factory cover is leaking, I don't think it would matter.
Thks for the information. The truck has PTO installed to run 15KW generator. Will have to see if I can find a gasket. Need to change the tranny fluid anway.
Thks
