why does the local ford dealer tell me that i don't need a gasket on the 9.75 rear end?? anyway 2 months ago i changed the rear fluid used permatex ultra black RTV silicone gasket maker and now its starting to leak the cover and
housing are in great shape clean and dry
i guess i'll buy a sheet of gasket material and cut my own
Make sure you put a bead of the RTV on both surfaces, let it set 10-15 minutes to get tacky, install and properly torque the bolts, then, if possible, let the truck sit overnight before adding the rear diff fluid.
99 Ford Expy, have you got this fixed yet? I changed my diff fluid and used rtv, and can't get it to stop leaking. I was thinking of making a gasket like you mentioned and using rtv to see if it helps, but wanted to hear what you did to fix yours.

Is the cover a 12-bolt? If so, Advance Auto Parts sells a gasket for that differential. It should be a "Trans-Dapt" brand Differential Cover Gasket Part #9056. AAP will probably have to order it, & could have it to you in 2 business days.
Recently on the differential fluid changes on my Jeep i've used the Permatex Red RTV. I applied a bead on the differential and took my finger to spread it out, so there was a layer all the way around about 1/16" - 1/8" thick. I waited a few minutes and put the cover on. Waited 24 hours before putting fluid in. No leaks yet for me.
