The transmission is leaking badly on my 95 f-150 5.0 4x4. I replaced the pan gasket last night, and it didn't make a difference. It appears to be leaking by the rear of the pan....the fluid dripps from the crossmember. The tranny is a aod-w i believe, so the rear of the pan is directly over the crossmember.
If it makes a difference, i had to use a cork gasket, and the original (molded) gasket appeared to be in good shape.
Where else could this fluid be leaking from? should i replace the pan gasket with a good one? Any other ideas?
I replaced the gasket with a good one, and it still leaks. I looked it over pretty good, and it appears as if the fluid is leaking from the gasket between the transmission adapter and the tranny. Has anyone replaced one of these gaskets? How difficult is it? Thanks,
Scott
Your probably talking about the extension housing gasket. It's not that bad to change, but you do have to pull the transfer case. Pull the six bolts that hold the transfer case on, pull that off. Take the nuts off the tranny mount, jack the tranny up far enough to get to the tranny mount bolts, then take off the mount. Then the bolts that hold the housing on. Make sure you get all the old gasket off.
