anybody that is running shorty headers have any pics of them installed? im thinking about going with some sanderson's and want to see how they fit and also see the spacing for the starter.
Sanderson with mini starter is a must. If not you'll have to drop the headers to remove the starter. But the Ceramic coating does make the pipes cooler.

not with Sanderson's had about only 3/8" clearance if that. I ran the stock starter for about 3 months until I changed over as I had to pull the bell housing when in installed the Nv4500 5-spd o/d. The Sanderson header were designed for no gaskets just High Temp RTV. So it's a pain in the *** to have to clean off all the old rtv and re-do them. But once you've cooked a starter you get a little smarter and go with the mini starter. It's not that we all like them it's a must for trouble free running. Sanderson headers are known as block huggers. One thing, I don't like about them is they are 3/4" in places and you can't even have a petcock block drain in it with out hitting one of the pipe runners. I used brass Allen pipe plugs.

so is there any benefit of running the shorty's? i was going to run them for more clearance but i have heard that you can run a mini starter with full length headers and have no problems
Well I had a set of long tube headers on for 20 yrs and could run the stock starter with out cooking it or removing problems. The #4 pipe wrapped around the back by the bell housing bolts. These were make by Black Jack painted white in the late 70's. Mail ordered from Sears. Great headers but could never find another set. I had a front sway bar that got hit by the one tube if going to fast hit a dip in the road a little to fast.
I had a camper on the truck then. After 20 yrs the smashed tube got a little thin and started to leak, so figured it was time for the old exh logs again. Which was nice having all that room again around the axle and linkage.
But after a yr or so saw the Sanderson shorty one's at a car show. The left header dropped right in from the top. The right side, I put from the under side.Wow no jacking up the motor or any thing like that. I was impressed and loved the ease of installing them.
But everything has it's down side. But, I don't push the old truck hard or looking for max power with it. So figuered i'ed get the shorty headers.
You just have to make up your mind to run a mini starter which, I HAD TO DO. I didn't really want to do It's the only way to have your cake and eat it too..orich
