troubleshooting clutch
i have a 1978 f250 custom with a 400ci engine, i dont think my clutch is engaging or disengaging all the way. when i push in the clutch pedal and try to shift it sounds like its grinding. when i put the truck in gear and the pedal is depressed all the way the truck still moves, ive adjusted the linkage and it doesnt appear to be the problem. any suggestions?

Does the linkage have two adjustments? I mean, there's the rod between the clutch lever and Z-bar and a vertical rod between the clutch pedal arm and the Z-bar. Are ya missing the return spring mounted btwn the clutch lever and frame???
Otherwise, could be a bent rod, a bent clutch lever, or a loose Z bar bracket. The Z-bar has two brackets - one mounted on the engine and the other is mounted on the frame. If Z-bar is not sitting horizontal, that means the engine is sitting cockeyed and needs to be leveled... you can probably guess how I know...
If the grinding is only while the clutch is depressed, then the throwout bearing is going south. Bummer.
