clutch linkage help

I have not crawled under the truck yet, so the question is more theoretical (waiting for Utah weather to creep up above freezing first).

The trouble with my 65 F250 352 4 speed manual daily driver happened when the clutch pedal went to the floor and the clutch remained engaed.

I have gone all over the place looking for a replacement clutch cable - no one even lists it. Beginning to wonder if the clutch is not operated by a cable.

Since I don't see a hydralic clutch cylinder it has to be either cable or linkage. Please inform. Also, what is your guess as to what happened given the report above?

Thanks for any and all comments/questions.

Tom

No clutch cable, no hydraulic clutch...but there is a rod that goes from the clutch pedal to the clutch equalizer bar underneath the floor board. It snapped, quite common.

Under your dash you will see a large bracket. The clutch pedal shaft fits into that from the drivers side, passes through the suspended brake pedal and is held on by a idler lever that attaches to the end of the shaft on the right side. The idler lever has the clutch rod attached that goes through the floor to the clutch equalizer bar underneath the truck.

You will need a new clutch pedal rod, two bushings, one on each end, and two additional split nylon bushings that the clutch pedal shaft rides on inside the bracket. You should also replace the bushings, felt washers and snap rings on the clutch equalizer bar.

1-C5TZ-7521-B .. Rod, Clutch Pedal to Idler Lever 18 7/8" in length
2-C0AZ-7526-A .. Bushing, Clutch Rod (you may want to add two wave washers, also).

2-B7AZ-2471-A .. Bushing, Clutch & Brake Pedal Mounting.

2-C1AA-7543-A .. Bushing, Clutch Equalizer Bar
2-358979-S .. Felt Washers .........."............
2-97474-S .. Snap Ring, Clutch Eq. Bar

True, you do not have a clutch cable or any hydraulic clutch. it's a rod and lever set-up. Unfortunately, I've only dealt with one online company for parts, so I can't compare and contrast, but LMC Truck had everything I needed to replace all of my clutch, and clutch release compnents. Althought there are parts they don't carry for my other applications, I'm still looking elsewhere for those.

Happy hunting, and hope someone else will have more info for ya. This site's helped me out a lot.

I have had this happen a lot years ago, almost every time, the big long spring
came loose, but more often the ''crayon'' thats what I have called it for years, it has fell out on the ground, some are threaded some are not, look on
the ground where it happen . It may sill be hanging on the linkage rod also,if it is the threaded kind. Some of them are hex shape, others are round.

P.S. on some trucks that have had the fly wheel turned a lot, or clutch a little
worn, I have made my own adjustable ones, But only when it happens over and OVER! The ''crayon'' points in the dimple on the clutch fork.

P.S. please post back and let us know what you find!

very helpful suggestions

I have been educated by your comments. I will try to get under and take a look this week. I hope the job is not too involved for my skill level, especially since I am not fond of working with ice cold tools and parts for hours on end.

I'll return back here when I have assessed the situation.

Thanks for your help and thanks for a great forum!

What happened to me many years ago while I was driving the part that bolts on to the engine and receives the ball and has the bushings in it came off, one bolt came out and I didn;t know about it then the other one broke off and the clutch petal went to the floor and it was still engaged. I drove around like that shifting without a clutch and starting it in gear till I found a gas station with 2 3/8 bolts and I crawled under and fixed it

Wow, wouldn't that be the best if it was just a bolt... I've been so lucky this far with maintenance that perhaps the old truck will continue make it easy on me.

Thanks for the encouraging message.
