I had this same issue a few months ago. Read all kinds of horror stories of possible problems with this 6.0L. I finally decided to find a reliable Deisel mechanic, and they settled my nerves by saying the most likely cause was the EGR cooler. Most of the other issues were not as comon. They told me they ONLY use coolers from Bullet Proof Deisel. The videos on the website were great. I wished I'd had the money for the Oil cooler system. I went with the EGR cooler only. they did a great job, warranty and everything said and done I was out only $1150 labor and oil change. Price of the Cooler I can't recall, I ordered it over the phone with BPD. Truck runs great now. One final note, 6.0L is POS enigne, I'm currently looking for an older F-350 with the 7.3L, BEST Damn engine ever.

He's gonna find out how good the 6.0 really is after he switches to the 7.3!

Hmmmm.... Beside the anurism I may have caused myself trying to find one locally.. It seems that the scanguage 2 is something I gotta have ! Am I reading correctly under the xguage (specific to 6.0) section that it will monitor (ie diagnose) your ICP and IPR readings along with all the other great stuff ?

the EGR cooler is probably causing your coolant puke issues/boiling a bad oil cooler would cause these things too

if it were me Id throw a new oil cooler at it BPD EGR cooler and new egr valve at it and go from there

the head gaskets maybe OK a compression test would confirm so you maynot need ARP studs right now if its not in the budget
i agree wif benny as well. everything he said so far is right on the dollar. gonna rep u for tis. lol.

i agree tat it doesnt make sense tat all the stuff to change means tat they're all going bad at once.

i also agree tat it sounds like a blown egr cooler. if ur gonna change ur egr cooler, then proceed wif changing ur oil cooler as well. we got tech folders tat are helpful.

also, if u google or go to youtube, u can find videos of replacement procedures for the oil cooler and egr cooler.

hope tis helps.

i'll have to agree wif u on tis, alan. @hawgrum, yes tis is dangerous ground. lol. u cant appreciate it til its gone......the 6.0 jus needs more constant maintenance than the 7.3 but when perfect, she runs and outperforms the 7.3 anytime, brother.

It's great for monitoring but on an 03/04 not very good for a code reader because of the PCM I suppose. I've never read any stored codes with my SGII but at the same time had a LIST with my AE.

You've got both ? On the AE.... Is it dummed down enough for a trucker to use or should I stick with the elementary stuff (sg2) the reason I ask is because in the grand scheme of things , $359 for the AE may be ALOT wiser investment that a tuner at this point if..... And that's a BIG IF it's not something I'll look at on my laptop in a year and say DUH , I figured I wasn't smart enough to use it. Actually I could get the AE & the SG2 for a little less than the livewire..... If Joe Schmo can (or will ) use it ?

LOL--AE, SGII, SCT XCal2, Predator. I've been at this since the EARLY 6.0 days.

AE is pretty easy to use actually although the tutorial leaves a lot to be desired. There are a LOT of folks on FTE who have it. It gives information that's just not possible with the SGII.

FWIW--I would NOT get a lemonwire. Just my $.02. An Xcal3 and SGII will do as much for a lot less.

It's plug and play.....install the software, hook to the truck with the interface and follow the prompts.
