I've been viewing this site for a few days and it sounds like you all know something about Excursions. So, here goes. Just bought a 2000 v10 (45,000 miles) for my wife. All is good with the wallowing beast except for the door locks....they don't work. . Also, the person we bought from claims thet never used the auto keypad and therefore doesn't remember the code. . Anyone have any thoughts?
I've also just recently purchased a used Excursion. I found the power lock code on a card in with the owners manual. Just a thought incase you haven't looked yet.
The door lock actuators are known to fail in this model. Sometimes the actuator can be lubricated and it will start back working. If not, you will need to replace the actuator. I have one on mine that doesn't work....but I haven't got around to fixing it yet.
I appreciate the responses. I had no luck finding a card or anything else that had a code on it in the glovebox. I'll probably have to go to the dealer and pay the ninety bucks they want to access the contol module.
Haven't tried lubing the actuators but it's worth a shot. Dealer wants $90. dianostic (like it's not ovious whats wrong) just to tell me the acuators don't work. After that its one and a half hours labor at $79. an hour for each door. Acuator was quoted at $41. each, quite a bit cheaper then some quotes I saw posted. I think I'll be taking a close look at how hard the door panels are to take off.
I saw a few posted that talked abot the warrenty not covering the door locks not working. I had one replaced already and one more that starting to go. I never paided a thing. I also had then reset the code for me and still never paid. I quess I have one of the better dealers. Check under the dash of the drivers side as well. Mine was written in the drivers door jam, go figure.
I just had my keyless entry code reset by the dealership. They were going to charge me $25.00 to reset it until I spoke with the service manager. The keyless entry code is in the rear panel by the rear air, but it is a real pain to get to. The dealership can use their computer to extract the code out in about 5 minutes.
I removed the front right door lock actuator and disected it. The problem appears to be in the tiny motor inside. When I removed the motor and ran it standalone, it ran full speed for a few seconds and then slowed down. Under load and on a hot day, these are probably prone to failure, especially after 2+ years.
Here in Tucson, the outside temperature directly affects the operation. Today it was 106 and only one of four worked. I've ordered all four from fordpartsonline, for a whopping $230.
