Drivers Door Will Not Lock

All other doors will lock. I have tried manually pushing down the lock, the automatic lock on both drivers and passenger door, the remote control on my key as well as turning the key to lock it. NOTHING locks the door.

When I press the lock button, I hear the door make the cha-ching noise that it makes when the door would lock, but the lock just isn't spinning downward to lock.

What should I check to get this fixed? Would prefer to avoid a trip to the shop if I can help it!

Welcome to the forum!

What year is your Explorer? You're going to need to remove the door panel and inspect inside the door for a mechanical issue or interference that is preventing the lock mechanism from working. Since manually pushing the lock **** down doesn't work but you believe you are hearing the solenoid try to move, it sounds like mechanically something is seized.

It is a 1996.

I will remove the door panel in a bit, how would I know if something is seized up? What would be the indicator to let me know?

With the door panel removed you should be able to see or feel the lock linkage. Try to operated the lock **** to determine if the linkage is attempting to move all the way to the lock solenoid, but unable to move the solenoid. Then you could unclip the linkage from the solenoid and confirm the **** works freely. If so, that will be a very good indicator that the lock solenoid/latch mechanism is the culprit.

Thank you for the tip. I so thought I had replied to your post, so sincerest apology for the late reply.

It was the solenoid, I replaced it and my door is locking again!
