Guys I bought a 94 f150 with some problems one by one im trying to knock them down but this one has me stumped, I dont get into the diffs and im looking to save money on diag so please help

I had the rear of the truck up in the air , I noticed that my wheel has weird play, I put my hands through the wheel and grabbed the drum and the axel and wheel seems to be almost sliding in and out a good amount! I have heard this before and someone said theyr whole axel and wheel came off driving lol I dont wan that! and it has this same play on both sides.

Thats pretty normal, rarely gets bad enough to cause a problem. 1/4" or a little more is ok IMO

My dad's 92 had the same problem a few years back. While we were pulling a car trailer down the interstate we lost the passenger side rear axle.. Now basically the entire passenger side of his truck looks brand new, because the busted axle came flying out and wiped everything out.. I think our problem had something to do with the retainer clip on the axle (?). It's been a few years so I don't really remember exactly what it was. Keep a close eye on it, you don't want that happening to you..

I would look up the spec's and measure it. usually the end of the axle wears on the large pin that holds the spider gears to the diff case, also the c clips and the pin itself can be worn, if too much end play the axle can drop the c clip and out the axle comes !

I'd be inclined to pop the rear cover off, take the crosspin out, and remove both axles and c-clips to check for wear. A little bit of endplay is fine but I'd be worried at anything more than about 1/4".

You should probably get some fresh gear oil in there anyway, 10 7/16" bolts, gear oil mess, and you're looking at your diff. They're not hard to inspect or do simple repairs to. Its just setting up new gear sets that requires some skill. Have some damn self confidence! half kidding there, but seriously.

And yes, some end play is intended.

How many miles on the rig?

Oh, yeah if its all shot, a good used unit would probably be a good call. I'd still pull the cover to have a look though.
Where are you getting $600 for parts? Shop in town (not known for being cheap, just known for being reputable) quoted me $800 for all new bearings and new ring and pinion, that included labor. I decided to reuse my ring and pinion (didn't look bad to me), and bought the overhaul kit from Jeff's Bronco Graveyard for like $100 IIRC.
