Carb problems
California emissions or 49-state?
With AC or no?
High or low altitude?
Automatic or manual transmission?
etc. etc. etc.
Without the tag number, I'd then want the engine's Calibration Code (of which there are seemingly hundreds) to look it up in the parts catalog.

Ok, I have found an exact same carb off of a late 70's cougar 351M with a C6. The one on my engine and the one off the cougar have all lines, vaccum hoses, springs, throttle and kickdown linkages the same. And the number tag on this carb do not match anything my local parts/performance shop have. it has two numbers
5079AA
3464-004080
If I can not find a rebuild kit I guess new holley is the answer but I would like to save a few dollars and rebuild this one myself.
The parts guy wants the number off the tag (looks like the attached image).
Without that, get yourself a Motorcraft 2150 kit that seems to apply to your engine.
Might ask him to look for a kit for a tag # of E1TE-BGA which applies to a 1981 F150 2WD with a 351M and automatic transmission,
Calibration # 1-60J-R10 (if he has that kind of info).
Then, take a look at the below site:
