aux. overdrive

I remember reading an ad in Diesel Power magazine about one of the diesel shops which had installed an aux. overdrive in an 08-10 Super Duty. Problem is I can,t remember which one it was and my son always takes my mags when he comes home from college. Can anyone help with info?

Gear Vendors under/overdrive transmissions the most awarded auxiliary transmissions.

$3200 plus install, if they can fit your truck.

What is your interest--mileage increase, or extra gears for towing?

Just be aware that gear vendors recommends their unit to not be used in a heavy towing application.

I contacted Gear Vendors soon after purchasing my F-450 enquiring about their overdrive unit. THought it would be a good way to have my cake and eat it, too. 4.88 heavy towing when needed, 3.73 for good fuel mileage when not towing. They informed me that due to the weight, engine power output and towing heavy, they did not recommend their unit for the F-450 pickup.

For the GV unit, probably the '08-'10 450s themselves would almost qualify as 'heavy towing.' Mine weighs 10400 when ready for a long trip...put my 17400 trailer behind it and--POOF! goes the overdrive. Thats why GV doesn't recommend heavy towing.
