Frame reinforcement

I have a 2 wheel drive '79 F-150 short box that came with a 302. I have plans to put in a stroked 460 pushing about 500 hp.

My question is should I be worried about the strength of the frame?

Should I be boxing it around the engine mounts and the rear spring hangers?

From the description of your engine, you plan on abusing it. It sure isn't going to hurt to strengthen it a bit. Better now than later, I believe in overkill.

I wouldn't call it abuse but it will hit the track once and a while.

it will be fine. Plenty of people running stock frame on 4x4's with powerful engines and they get twisted and winched and yanked and beat on and they are fine.

Wow. That sounds like a nice engine upgrade. Are you gonna go with polyurethane bushings to replace the squishy rubber bushings at the same time? Or is that not a concern with the occasional track use?
