Hi, haven't posted in a while, but now I'm back to work on my 61 merc-uni. Just got the motor back, 1970 460, 30 over with 2.5cc flat tops, going to be running a set of D3VE heads, and a cam in the mid 5's for lift, and 260-285 duration.
This is my first Ford build, although I've done a fair bit of work on what "you fellas" like to " listen too rust on a quiet night ".
My question is this, local ford gus have said, " that uni frame will need too be completely boxed, or that engine will eat it. Fair enough. Will I have to add more cross bracing, if so, any recomendations ?

The Uni frame is C channel...the same basic frame design was used from the teens thru today.
The 1961/63 Uni frame is the same as used on 1961/3 non Uni's.
Whoever told you that the frames are weak, is full of scheiss.
If nothing else, the frames are faaar stronger on the '60's trucks, than now.
The 460 engine was introduced in 1973 on F100/350's.
The frame on the 1973/79 F100's is damn near identical to what the Uni's used.
Ask around here on FTE...see how many ppl have had trouble with their 460's eatin' their frames.
The answer will be: Z E R O !

I run a 472 EFi C6 in my 64. Same frame as a 61 to 63 uni.
I have installed an engine cradle and removed the old bell mount crossmember. No issues. the 460 fully dressed weighs less than the I6. and not much above a 292.
Rust is what eats those frames not a mild 460! A little boxing and reinforcing is all that is needed. That is a 91 octane motor you are building. That old Ford is gonna scoot right along!
