1968 f250 engine question

So here is my problem the code says f25ykd
In the book it shows a v8 in it but it has a straight six in it
Am I reading it wrong
Also if it is a straight six how can I tell what size it is

Someone swapped the mill...probably a 300, but could be a 240...measure the piston travel/stroke with a long screwdriver or wooden dowel.

F25 = F250 2WD / Y = 360 2V / Kansas City Assembly Plant / Dxxxxx = thru D82,000 = 1968. D82,001-G30,001 = 1969.

Where did you get this VIN from...off the registration, or off the Warranty Plate?

The Warranty Plate is located on the left door face below the latch-1963/80 except F100/350 Open Drive-Away's.

Open Drive-Away's: Chassis & Cowl and Chassis & Windshield: The plate is under the hood (on the cowl panel), because these trucks have no doors (no roofs either).

A repro parts catalog I was browsing thru recently said all 1967/72's have the plate on the cowl panel. That's total BS, excepting Open Drive-Away's.

Peeps replaced damaged left doors with used doors. 99% of the time, they failed to install the original Warranty Plate on the replaced door.

Measure the stroke to determine the engine size: 240 = 3.18" / 300 = 3.98."

bdog, The 240 was a real woose and by 68 most 6s would have been the 300, measuring the stroke is the only way to tell for sure.

The VIN is on the top of passenger side frame rail once under the cab and once just ahead of where the axle crosses under. IT IS THERE.

I have found a piece of white house wire about 6-8" long works better than a stick for measuring the stroke.
